Basin PBS is needing a volunteer to be a costume character at this year's Blue the Basin! Interact with families and smile for pictures while dressed as a PBS Kids mascot. The event will be held from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Thursday, April 23rd at the Museum of the Southwest. You will NOT be in character the entire two hours, breaks will be provided and character visits are usually 15 minutes in length each time you go out.

Help us celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in a BIG way,  as Clifford the Big Red Dog! Basin PBS is visiting area schools May 4–7, and we need a friendly, energetic volunteer to wear the Clifford costume and bring smiles to students and teachers. You'll be visiting classrooms, posing for pictures, and spreading PBS joy. You will need to travel with us to different elementary schools in the area.

You will meet us at Basin PBS (203 N Main St, Midland, TX) we will contact you with specific times. You'll visit classrooms, pose for pictures, and spread PBS joy throughout the community.

Neighbors Eden Project invites Midland College Legacy students to roll up their sleeves and serve with us on Thursday nights.

March 19, 2026 – October 29, 2026

Thursdays | 5:45 PM – 8:30 PM

Each week, our volunteers head out to help elderly and disabled neighbors who can’t maintain their yards on their own.

Together, we clear debris, pull weeds, trim plants, and refresh outdoor spaces so these homeowners can once again enjoy a safe, welcoming yard.

It’s hard work, but it’s the kind of work that feels good. In just a couple of hours, you’ll see the difference you made with your own hands.

Bonus opportunity for students:

Neighbors Eden Project workdays take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, through March. These are extra hours you can earn once you complete the work on that Saturday.

This Youth in Action volunteer opportunity allows students to earn up to 3 verified volunteer hours through a structured service project that follows same-day, in-person volunteer work with Neighbors Eden Project serving elderly and disabled neighbors.

Project hours are only available to students who participate in the actual workday.

To participate in the project activities below, students must:
• Volunteer in person on the scheduled service day
• Sign in and complete the full workday
• Follow all safety and participation guidelines

Students who do not volunteer on the workday are not eligible to earn project hours.

Up to 2 Volunteer Hours:
• Complete the specified Project: Community Impact Reflection to earn 30 minutes of time.

• Complete the journal for 30 additonal minutes
• Submit the required project form through the provided QR link

• Presentation must explain the project and lessons learned from that service day
• Video must be student-created and clearly presented

The Family Hope Center provides families with support, encouragement, and resources as they work toward stability and growth. Through classes, coaching, and community gatherings, families are equipped with tools to build a stronger future

This volunteer opportunity supports parents while they attend required trainings and educational classes. These gatherings are an important part of equipping caregivers with the tools and encouragement they need to care well for children in their homes.

Volunteers will provide childcare during these sessions by engaging children in games, activities, and supervised play in a safe and welcoming environment. By caring for children during this time, volunteers help parents focus fully on learning, connection, and support

Because this role involves working directly with children, volunteers will be contacted to complete a background check and any other required steps before being eligible to serve in childcare roles. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Azurie Rodriguez, will work with you through this process and answer any questions along the way.

We’re gearing up for our Valentine’s Dance and would love a few helping hands to make the night extra special! We need support with serving pizza and drinks, handing out door prizes, doing some light chaperoning while students dance, and helping with clean‑up and take‑down afterward. The event runs from 6–8 PM, and if you could please arrive by 5:30 PM, we’ll go over a few quick housekeeping notes and assign everyone to their stations.

Volunteers will assist students with team-building activities, engineering challenges, and creative robotic designs.  Volunteers will arrive at 5:00 pm and we will finish at 8:00 pm.  Dress comfortably and appropriately. The class is open to students in 3rd through 8th grade.

The TALENT SHOW - is the night to volunteer! They bust out their best moves and sing their favorite songs, and we have the most fun of the year!!

Opportunity for YWLA student volunteers

Sibley Nature Center is in need of volunteers to support the maintenance and upgrade of the Sibley Nature Trail System. Located on 49.1 acres of land in Midland, Sibley manages a public trail system that is available to the community 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. Volunteers are needed to assist with trash pickup, weeding, mowing and general campus maintenance. Interested volunteers are invited to work with the Sibley Campus Maintenance Technician, Monday - Thursday 9a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers who would like to support during other hours are welcome. All volunteers must call ahead and speak with staff before signing up to volunteer at Sibley.

Jubilee Center needs people to help stock our pantry on the Fridays before our distributions that take place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. This includes loading freezers and organizing food in preparation for our pantry.  We also have a senior distribution that immediately follows stocking from 11:30am-12:30pm that volunteers are asked to stay and help with. 

Hello CHAP Students,

 Below is a worthy service opportunity for CHAP students and organizations to volunteer and help children in foster care!  WHIT is a non-profit that provides free tutoring to foster children.   

WHIT is needing 25 tutors ASAP to support 25 foster students with tutoring for 1 hour/week, until the end of school, with the option of tutoring through the summer as well!  We know many students go home when the semester ends, but tutoring can also be done virtually.  One hour a week can make a world of difference to these young kids who deserve to have an ally in their education. CHAP students can be that ally!

WHAT DO TUTORING SESSIONS LOOK LIKE:

 Tutoring sessions occur weekly for one hour and can take place in person or virtually, depending on where the child is placed.

Face-to-face tutoring sessions can only take place at the public or University library in the town where the child is placed. Virtual sessions take place via the Zoom or Teams platform in a very engaging one child/one tutor setting.

The United Way of Midland occasionally has special projects we need assistance with throughout the year.  The following projects may be required:

Volunteers needed to help distribute food during our distributions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. Volunteers help clients select food inside our building, help with restocking, or may be asked to assist clients to their vehicles once they are done shopping. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters is in serious need of mentors for the children on its waiting list. If you can spare an hour or so a week, and can say things like,  "I'm proud of you" and "You can do it", you're qualified to serve as a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Students seeking to get community hours for Legacy Scholarship programs or other programs can help us by serving as gift shop clerks, helping with routine cleaning and other general office help. Hours are based on your schedule. Saturday hours available!

Unlimited Dance Company is a program offered by Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center, a nonprofit outpatient pediatric rehabilitation facility.  Our dance program offers dance classes at no cost to the families for children with special needs ages 4 -21.  We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working with these children to help them learn dances to perform in their dance recital.  The dancers perform in two recitals per year, one at Christmas and one in the spring.  To be a dance volunteer, the only requirement is a willingness to work closely with children with special needs.  NO DANCE EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Volunteering for this program is also a great way to earn volunteer/observation hours when applying to graduate programs, particularly if you are interested in working in the medical/rehabilitation field. 

Tuesday evenings 5:30-6:30 PM, including a Christmas recital and a spring recital (5:45-7:30) 

***We need volunteers who can be available weekly so that our dancers have consistent instructors/helpers.

As a warehouse volunteer, you’ll help us inspect, clean, sort, box, and prepare donated food and non-food items to distribute to our pantries, Partner Agencies, and the folks they serve.  The minimum age to participate is ten years old. Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult age 21+ to serve. If you bring multiple minors, you must bring one adult for every five volunteers under 16. We ask all volunteers to arrive 5-10 minutes before the listed start time.  Please plan to give yourself ample opportunity to locate the building, get checked in, and be ready to start on time. Please dress appropriately and comfortably; no spaghetti strap shirts, short shorts, leggings, or revealing clothes.  Also, (CLOSED TOE SHOES ONLY) No flip-flops, sandals, or heels are allowed in the warehouse for safety purposes. Some volunteers will be asked to work in a cold or hot area that is not air-conditioned for the duration of the shift.  If you need accommodations during your volunteer shift, please get in touch with us as soon as you sign up for your shift so that we can discuss options. Please dress appropriately and comfortably; no spaghetti strap shirts, short shorts, leggings, or revealing clothes.  Also, (CLOSED TOE SHOES ONLY) No flip-flops, sandals, or heels are allowed in the warehouse for safety purposes. Some volunteers will be asked to work in a cold or hot area that is not air-conditioned for the duration of the shift.  If you need accommodations during your volunteer shift, please get in touch with us as soon as you sign up for your shift so that we can discuss options. This person will be making calls to different resources, finding out what they offer, what insurance they may or may not take, get information emailed to River's Purpose.

Kids First is a supervised visitation program that provides a safe, conflict-free, low-stress space for kids to build and maintain a bond with and attachment to their noncustodial parents. That’s a boring synopsis, but Kids First @ Centers is an amazing little program that is very hard to describe.

Custodial parents are mothers, fathers, grandparents, foster parents, or other relatives who are trying their best in an odd situation. Noncustodial parents are moms and dads for whom life has taken an unexpected turn.

In amongst all of this turmoil and confusion are the kids. We tell parents that we take the name “Kids First” very seriously. The children who come into this program are our priority. Their emotional and physical safety is of utmost importance. Even through all of this struggle, anger, and fear, we see kids who run into the arms of their visiting parent, who spend four hours a month laughing, playing, talking, and eating with a parent who they love and miss.

THIS is where YOU come in! As a Kids First volunteer, you will monitor visits between the children and their noncustodial parent(s). You will get to see them build their bond. You will get to help the kids feel safe and secure. You will be part of the amazing service we offer.

In Midland, we offer visits on the first through fourth Thursday evenings each month and on the first and third Saturday mornings each month. On Thursdays, our monitors arrive by 5:50pm. The visits are 6-8pm. Generally, all the kids have been picked up by 8:15pm. On Saturdays, our monitors arrive by 10:20am. The visits are 10:30am-12:30pm. Generally, all the kids have been picked up by 12:45pm.

The minimum age for a volunteer is 18 years old. A background check will be run through the Texas Department of Family Protective Services for each person; this can take about a week. We will conduct a training class that includes a tour of the building, an explanation of duties, and coverage of the rules the participants must follow.

At the end of every month, we send out a schedule for the following month to volunteers. Then, you sign up for the days you are able and willing to volunteer!
