Volunteer: Youth Services Volunteers (Centennial Library)

This opportunity is for students seeking hours toward Midland College Legacy Scholarship, Early College High School, National Honor Society or any other social or academic community service hours. After responding to this need, you MUST call the Centennial Library Youth Services department at 432-742-7445 to sign up for a shift. Volunteers who are 18 or older must undergo a background check.

Volunteers will sort, clean and shelve books, DVDs and other media materials for the Youth Services Department. 

Student volunteers can expect to develop social skills in a workplace setting and gain experience in library science career options.

 

Rules and Expectations for Volunteers:

 

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in school. No court-appointed volunteering is permitted. Volunteering time may be scheduled in two-hour blocks. Volunteers may not schedule more than one shift in advance. Midland County Public Library only accepts ONE Legacy Volunteer Shirt volunteer at a time. Scheduled hours may not overlap with another volunteer’s. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and school-appropriate attire. Volunteers may not use their cellphones while working (unless it’s an emergency). Siblings and friends are not permitted to accompany the volunteer during the shift. Midland County Public Libraries expect all volunteers to perform all duties as described by Youth Services staff members. If a volunteer needs to cancel, he or she must call the Youth Services desk. Volunteers who do not call to cancel will be classified as a “no call, no show” and will not be permitted to sign up again.

Excessive tardiness and rescheduling will not be permitted. Volunteers will be allowed three “late days” or opportunities to reschedule. After three chances, Youth Services staff will evaluate whether the volunteer may continue to complete his or her service hours at the library.
