We are looking for volunteers to help move furniture from our Alta property back to Family Promise of the Permian Basin.

This is a great opportunity to make a direct impact by helping us prepare furniture and household items for future families in our programs.

Volunteers will help to facilitate a station that will feature either a hands-on experiment, demonstration, or creative activity centered around the amazing body systems that keep us moving, thinking and growing.  Please dress comfortably and appropriately (i.e. no short shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, etc).  Volunteers are expected to arrive at 5:30 pm. We will finish the evening around 8:30. 

All materials and information will be provided; NO experience required!

Family Promise Volunteer – Organization & Event Support

Help Family Promise of the Permian Basin keep things running smoothly by assisting with organization, setup, and cleanup after events. Volunteers may help organize supplies, sort and put away donations, clean and reset event spaces, and assist with other tasks needed around our facility.

Watch as artists transform the streets into vibrant works of art, creating eye-catching chalk masterpieces right before your eyes. This family-friendly event celebrates creativity of all kinds and brings the community together for a fun and inspiring experience in the heart of Downtown Midland.

Want to be part of the action? Join the Chalk the Block volunteer team and help bring this colorful community event to life! Volunteers may assist with artist check-in, activity areas, event information, attendee support, and other day-of needs.

Two-hour shifts will be available throughout the day, or volunteers can sign up for multiple shifts and stay for the full event. All volunteers will receive a Chalk the Block volunteer T-shirt, and water and snacks will be provided during their shifts. It’s a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours, meet new people, and be part of one of Downtown Midland’s most creative events. Specific volunteer roles and assignments will be shared closer to the event.

Neighbors Eden Project invites Midland students to become part of Youth in Action, our student-led service initiative focused on helping elderly and disabled homeowners who can no longer maintain their yards on their own.

Every Thursday, students work side-by-side with volunteers, families, and community leaders to restore yards, improve safety, and bring dignity back to homes across Midland.

This is not a sit-back-and-watch kind of volunteer opportunity.

Students actively help:

• Clear debris and overgrowth
• Pull weeds and clean flower beds
• Trim bushes and small trees
• Improve safety and curb appeal
• Serve homeowners who physically cannot do the work themselves

At the end of every project, you can physically see the difference your work made.

Youth in Action is more than community service hours. It is a leadership and character development program designed to help students grow through real responsibility, teamwork, and service.

Students are encouraged to step into leadership roles throughout the season by helping:

• Welcome and guide new volunteers
• Organize tools and work areas
• Encourage younger volunteers
• Lead by example during projects
• Represent compassion, work ethic, and responsibility in the community

Students who take on additional leadership responsibilities may earn extra volunteer hours while building practical skills that stand out on college applications, scholarships, resumes, and future job interviews.

Summer Literacy Camp is really so much fun! It's a camp for 2nd-7th graders where they play fun games, learn a little bit and have cool experiences! 

The camp is scheduled June - August, M-TH, 11:15am- 5:00pm. We will work with your availability as needed. We can't wait to meet you!

The Family Hope Center provides families with support, encouragement, and resources as they work toward stability and growth. Through classes, coaching, and community gatherings, families are equipped with tools to build a stronger future

This volunteer opportunity supports parents while they attend required trainings and educational classes. These gatherings are an important part of equipping caregivers with the tools and encouragement they need to care well for children in their homes.

Volunteers will provide childcare during these sessions by engaging children in games, activities, and supervised play in a safe and welcoming environment. By caring for children during this time, volunteers help parents focus fully on learning, connection, and support

Because this role involves working directly with children, volunteers will be contacted to complete a background check and any other required steps before being eligible to serve in childcare roles. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Azurie Rodriguez, will work with you through this process and answer any questions along the way.

The Historical Society needs volunteers to assist in operating the Midland County History Museum. The hours are 11 am to 4 pm Thursday-Saturday. The duties consist of welcoming visitors, directing them to exhibits, and taking information for research requests. There are some simple basic technology tasks that are simple to perform and docents will also check the restroom facilities and do simple maintenance as needed. Society members who serve as docents will have a key to the museum. If you prefer to work with a member or another person please indicate this. 

Volunteers are not required to commit to a regular schedule but choose days they can work on a month-by-month basis. 

Volunteers are needed to help set up 10 x 10 canopy tents for event at the Brown-Dorsey home (213 N. Weatherford), assist with guests as needed, and help take tents down after the event. Volunteers should arrive at 5:30 pm to help with setup for event that begins at 6:30 pm. They should help as needed with guests during the event (greeting, directing guests, helping with serving) 6:30-8:00 pm. (no special instructions or skills required). Then, assist with take-down after event. Three total volunteer hours earned. 

Building Bots Robotics and Engineering Funlabs engage tinkering minds to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Volunteers will assist students with team-building activities, engineering challenges, and creative robotic designs.  Volunteers will arrive at 5:00 pm and we will finish at 8:00 pm.  Dress comfortably and appropriately. The class is open to students in third through eighth grade.

Building Bots Robotics and Engineering Funlabs engage tinkering minds to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Volunteers will assist students with team-building activities, engineering challenges, and creative robotic designs.  Volunteers will arrive at 4:00 pm and we will finish at 7:00 pm.  Dress comfortably and appropriately. The class is open to students in Kindergarten through second grade.

Course Direction Managers Help our runners stay on track — literally! Course Managers are stationed along the race route holding directional signs and pointing runners in the right direction at turns and intersections. This is a great role if you want a front-row seat to the action while playing a key part in keeping the race running smoothly and safely.

Finish Line Medal Crew Be the first to congratulate our runners! Medal Crew volunteers stand at the finish line and place medals around the necks of participants as they complete the race. This is one of the most rewarding roles of the day — you'll get to share in every runner's moment of accomplishment.

Cheer Squad Bring the energy! Cheer Squad volunteers line the course and finish area to clap, cheer, ring cowbells, and encourage every participant as they celebrate their hard work. No experience needed — just enthusiasm and a loud voice!

Refreshments Team Keep our runners fueled and hydrated! Refreshments Team volunteers help set up, organize, and hand out food, snacks, and drinks for participants before and after the race. If you like staying busy and being helpful behind the scenes, this role is for you.

Kid Zone Monitor Help us keep the fun safe! Kid Zone Monitors oversee our kids' activity area, making sure children are playing safely and having a great time while their families enjoy race day. This role is perfect for volunteers who are patient, attentive, and great with kids.

Teardown Crew Help us finish strong! Once the race wraps up, our Teardown Crew helps take down signs, tables, tents, and equipment and restores the venue to its original condition. This is a great option if you're available later in the day and don't mind rolling up your sleeves.

The Bush Family Home relies on volunteers to provide tours of the historic home and staff our gift shop.

Volunteers can work as much as they want. We are open 10-5 Tuesday through Saturday.

Training is provided/no experience necessary. Volunteers get to meet people from around the world.

Many of the moms in our program are employed and working toward stability, but safe and reliable childcare is one of the biggest challenges they face. By volunteering a few hours of your time, you can give a mom peace of mind while she's at work and give a child a safe, and caring environment. Babysitting will take place at Family Promise of Midland.

Funds raised directly support Prosperity programs, including employment readiness, mentorship, transportation assistance, professional clothing, and barrier removal services for individuals working toward meaningful employment in West Texas. We offer 6 hours of volunteering for this event for post-game clean up help.

Volunteers needed to help distribute food during our distributions on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. Volunteers help clients select food inside our building, help with restocking, or may be asked to assist clients to their vehicles once they are done shopping.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's - Permian Basin is our largest community event to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association mission - providing 24/7 free access to care, support, connection to local resources, and research.  On Walk day, we need volunteers in various areas of the event.  Volunteers can also work shifts.  

Event setup begins at 6:00 AM, the event opens to the public at 9:00 AM (need to be ready by 8:30 AM), and we will start tear-down about 11:15-11:30 AM. 

Event Set Up:  We will begin setting up the event at 6:00 AM on Saturday, October 17th.

Event Tear Down: 

Kids First is a supervised visitation program that provides a safe, conflict-free, low-stress space for kids to build and maintain a bond with and attachment to their noncustodial parents. That’s a boring synopsis, but Kids First @ Centers is an amazing little program that is very hard to describe.

Custodial parents are mothers, fathers, grandparents, foster parents, or other relatives who are trying their best in an odd situation. Noncustodial parents are moms and dads for whom life has taken an unexpected turn.

In amongst all of this turmoil and confusion are the kids. We tell parents that we take the name “Kids First” very seriously. The children who come into this program are our priority. Their emotional and physical safety is of utmost importance. Even through all of this struggle, anger, and fear, we see kids who run into the arms of their visiting parent, who spend four hours a month laughing, playing, talking, and eating with a parent who they love and miss.

THIS is where YOU come in! As a Kids First volunteer, you will monitor visits between the children and their noncustodial parent(s). You will get to see them build their bond. You will get to help the kids feel safe and secure. You will be part of the amazing service we offer.

In Midland, we offer visits on the first through fourth Thursday evenings each month and on the first and third Saturday mornings each month. On Thursdays, our monitors arrive by 5:50pm. The visits are 6-8pm. Generally, all the kids have been picked up by 8:15pm. On Saturdays, our monitors arrive by 10:20am. The visits are 10:30am-12:30pm. Generally, all the kids have been picked up by 12:45pm.

The minimum age for a volunteer is 18 years old. We will conduct a training class that includes a tour of the building, an explanation of duties, and coverage of the rules the participants must follow. A background check will be run on each volunteer.

At the end of every month, we send out a schedule for the following month to volunteers. Then, you sign up for the days you are able and willing to volunteer!

Sibley Nature Center is in need of volunteers to support the maintenance and upgrade of the Sibley Nature Trail System, as well as our Education Garden. Located on 49.1 acres of land in Midland, Sibley manages a public trail system that is available to the community 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. Volunteers are needed to assist with trash pickup, weeding, mowing, gardening and general campus and garden maintenance. Interested volunteers are invited to work with the Sibley Campus Maintenance Technician, or in the Education Garden.

Monday - Thursday 9a.m. to 4 p.m.

All volunteers must call ahead and speak with staff before signing up to volunteer at Sibley.  

2nd Annual Pickle Ball tournament will be held at Bush Tennis Center on September 19th.  We will need volunteers to help with set up, working different stations for the event and clean up.

While the kids are having fun, parents can relax, recharge, and enjoy time for themselves—knowing their children are in good hands. Respite Night provides families the opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities, connect with peace of mind, and return refreshed.

The Summer Mummers Fundraiser will be accepting volunteers beginning Friday, June 5.

Volunteers assist with operations - all training provided - during performances on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

Midland Community Theatre's annual fundraiser at the Yucca Theatre. A Melodrama, Moviola, and Olio entertain patrons and volunteers assist with selling popcorn, raffle tickets, tokens, merchandise, and work behind the scenes. Community Service hours must also be logged in each evening you volunteer. Dress is casual and tennis shoes are preferred, please no flop-flops or sandals.

Volunteers under 18 must stay in the popcorn popping room and must have a parent/guardian on campus at all times.

Shifts are 4 hours once per week. Weekday shifts: 8:30-12:30 and 12:30-4:30.

Job Descriptions:

Information Desk: greet visitors and take them to destinations and lookup patient room numbers.

Gift Shop: staff the gift shop and sell items. Proceeds are returned to the hospital in the form of equipment.

Popcorn Station: run the popcorn machine and sell to guests.

Tools of Expression, also known as TOE, is a peer support group for children ages 4-18 who have experienced a loss or change such as death, divorce, separation, incarceration, deployment, and foster care. Through the use of the creative arts, TOE classes focus on peer support and the expression of feelings. TOE classes rotate monthly. One month may focus on music, while another focuses on drama, photography, journaling, or other creative expressive tools.

TOE classes are held on Monday nights at 6PM from April-August.

Volunteers are needed from 6-7PM. All volunteers must attend volunteer training and submit to background checks. Volunteer Training will be held from 10 AM - 1 PM on the following dates:

Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Centre is a community outreach of Hospice of Midland. We serve children 4 years to 18 years who have experienced a loss due to death, divorce, separation, incarceration, deployment, foster care, or other painful transition. Through facilitated peer support groups, children share experiences, use creative arts as tools of expression, and acquire coping skills to work through the tough issues that accompany grief. Because we are an outreach of Hospice of Midland, services are provided at no charge to participants.

Neighbors Eden Project workdays take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, through March. These are extra hours you can earn once you complete the work on that Saturday.

Schedule adjusts after daylight saving time begins.

This Youth in Action volunteer opportunity allows students to earn up to 3 verified volunteer hours through a structured service project that follows same-day, in-person volunteer work with Neighbors Eden Project serving elderly and disabled neighbors.

Project hours are only available to students who participate in the actual workday.

To participate in the project activities below, students must:
• Volunteer in person on the scheduled service day
• Sign in and complete the full workday
• Follow all safety and participation guidelines

Students who do not volunteer on the workday are not eligible to earn project hours.

• Complete the specified Project: Community Impact Reflection to earn 30 minutes of time.

Hello CHAP Students,

 Below is a worthy service opportunity for CHAP students and organizations to volunteer and help children in foster care!  WHIT is a non-profit that provides free tutoring to foster children.   

WHIT is needing 25 tutors ASAP to support 25 foster students with tutoring for 1 hour/week, until the end of school, with the option of tutoring through the summer as well!  We know many students go home when the semester ends, but tutoring can also be done virtually.  One hour a week can make a world of difference to these young kids who deserve to have an ally in their education. CHAP students can be that ally!

WHAT DO TUTORING SESSIONS LOOK LIKE:

 Tutoring sessions occur weekly for one hour and can take place in person or virtually, depending on where the child is placed.

Face-to-face tutoring sessions can only take place at the public or University library in the town where the child is placed. Virtual sessions take place via the Zoom or Teams platform in a very engaging one child/one tutor setting.

STEPS TO BECOMING A WHIT TUTOR FOR CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE:

1. Filling out the WHIT tutor application is the first step to becoming a volunteer tutor.

Once we get word that your background check is cleared and you have completed the online training, I will email you congratulating you on officially becoming a WHIT tutor and I will work on matching you with a child in foster care waiting for a tutor!
