Do you have a passion for teaching adults?
Volunteer as a One-to-One tutor with Permian Basin Adult Literacy Center. Work with an adult who speaks English but struggles with reading and writing to develop their literacy skills.
Our literacy tutors teach individual adult students at pre-approved locations such as a library or a coffee shop. The pair is encouraged to set their own meeting schedule based on each person's availability (including outside of PBALC office hours). Many of our One-to-One students struggle with dyslexia or other learning disabilities. Volunteers will complete training for the Barton Reading and Spelling System, the curriculum, and teaching method which will be used for One-to-One instruction.
Please note- all volunteer instructors must be 18 or older. Volunteers will be required to fill out a volunteer application, pay a $35.00 criminal background check fee, and complete a volunteer orientation.
