The Walk to End Alzheimer's is our largest community event that raises awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association. The Walk is open to all ages and abilities, is free to attend, and fundraising is encouraged. The funds raised are invested in our community to continue providing 24/7 care, support, education, connection to local resources, and fuel critical research.
We need event day volunteers to assist in the following areas:
- Event set-up: Unloading event items, placing tables, chairs, tents, and general setup of all areas of the Walk.
- Volunteers to work in the following areas during the event:
- Promise Garden: pre-planting flowers in the two garden areas and manning the tent for participant flower pick-up
- Refreshments: keeping the area tidy and stocked
- Kids Area: interacting with kids, handing out giveaways, monitoring the cornhole boards, and blowing up balloons
- Pet Area: keeping the area tidy, handing out treats, and making sure the water bowls are full
- Photo Area: assisting with taking team photos
- Advocacy: assisting our Advocacy lead in speaking about Prop 14 (you will be trained on-site)
- Tribute Wall: assisting participants with adding their memories to the tribute wall, keeping items stocked, and keeping the area tidy
- Route Set-up: assisting with setting up water stations and placing event signs along the walk route
- Route monitors & water stations: man the water stations on the route and cheer walkers on as they go by
- Start Line: cheering and encouraging Walkers as they head out on the Walk route
- Thank You brigade: cheering and thanking Walkers as they finish the walk route
- Event tear-down and loading: all stations are broken down, and items are moved to the front of the pavilion. Assist with loading items onto trucks and uhauls.
Volunteer hours are from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
We do allow for volunteers to come in shifts, and the credit hours are adjusted accordingly. (For example: 6 am-9 am, or 8:30 am-12:00 pm)
The event opens to the public at 9:00 a.m., with the opening and promise garden ceremony at 10:00 a.m., and the walk will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The event is held outdoors, with lots of walking. Please dress accordingly.
When volunteers arrive, they will check-in at the volunteer tent. Here, they will receive a quick safety briefing and be directed to their area. Volunteer shirts will be available while supplies last.
The morning is full of love, remembrance, and community connection as we come together to end Alzheimer's and all other dementias!
